This hands-on workshop will introduce participants to technologies that may function as alterantives to learning/course management systems like Blackboard, Desire-to-Learn, and Sakai. Attend this workshop to gain an understanding of what are the core components of a learning management system (LMS), what technologies might function as alterantives to LMSs, and where you may obtain a accounts for these alternative LMS technologies.

After attending this workshop participants shall be able to:
- Describe the primary requirements of a Learning Management System.
- List various technologies that can also function as, or parts of, a LMS.
- Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of using the following tools as alternative LMSs:
- Blogs
- Wikis
- Web-Based Office Software
- Social Networking Site
- List where they may open free accounts for blogs, wikis, web-based office software, and social networking sites.
- Describe issues with online testing and list some alternative web sites that offer testing tools.
