Managing Conflict in the Workplace and in the Classroom

Description

A college climate depends on effective interaction and collaboration to achieve the mission of the institution within the classroom and across the institution. When highly intelligent and competitive employess and students work together, conflict is inevitable. Such conflict can stem from too much to do in too little time, differences of opinion over process or the assessment of student work. Employee issues include confrontation over scheduling, budgets, space and staffing. In addition, studies report that newly formed teams often go through a ?storming? stage before they begin ?performing? effectively. We cannot stop conflict from occurring, but we can seek to manage it effectively and constructively, turning ?have it outs? into ?work it outs.? This workshop is focused on the communication skills necessary to achieve this objective.
