Sharon showed her online CPD 102, Stress Management and Strategies for College Success course. The two-hour course will run for eight weeks.
The course homepage has a nice photograph of Sharon and an animated gif with music. It also has a "Start Here" icon that leads to the following:
1. Assignments - on a week by week basis
2. Important Info - includes computer requirements, withdrawal policy etc.
3. Syllabus - information on grading
4. Final Exam - details on the essay final exam
5. Research
The first assignment is to post an introduction for the instructor, giving the student's background. Sharon may have the students email these intros to her or have individual discussion boards. Only the instructor and the student could see the board and the student could add to it as the semester progresses.
Each week the students are to read chapters in the textbook and study a Powerpoint presentation that outlines the chapter (attractive presentations created by the textbook publisher ). Sharon has uploaded these for student access. At the end of the Powerpoint presentation are questions students are to answer. They will send their answers to Sharon via an email.
The textbook has a CD-ROM that has a relaxation-meditation exercise students will do the last week of class.
Sharon is including lots of weblinks as resources for extra credit point. These links include stressbusting techniques and resources at the Arizona Mental Health Association site.
A discussion board with Questions for the Instructor is provided.
Sharon hopes to include streaming videos from PBS and the Annenberg site.
Sharon plans to work with Melanie on making the graphics better for her course. This will add some student interest to a good course.
